Laundry Day oil painting

Laundry Day

I love the feel of a pastel stick, brush, palette knife, rag, sponge, or just my hands, plus so many different instruments and media upon paper, board or canvas. Anticipation fills me as form and composition emerge as if by magic, although I know I am no magician but sense that at times spirits are somehow involved in the creation of the work I face when I am ready to say I am finished. Although I paint plein air, from photos and idealized memories of my seemingly idyllic rural upbringing and later life in the city, my work veers far from pure representation. My art often strikes a whimsical note, which reflects my sense of humor and desire to express my emotions through visual imagery, and to not merely mimic exactly what I see around me.
